How to set up and use Hot Corners on Mac and iPad?

When the iPad switched from iOS to iPadOS, Apple introduced several features designed to improve the user experience.

Especially when connected to accessories like the Magic Keyboard or an external keyboard and mouse.

One of the features introduced by iPadOS is the Hot Corners feature, which turns each of the four corners of the screen into an interactive area set up to perform certain actions.

This feature is also available in macOS; this article lists the steps to configure it and explains how to use it.

To get started, open System Preferences and follow the steps below.

Step one: Take a look at the hot corner or click on the desktop and screensaver.

Step two: In the Screen Saver subsection, click Hot Corners in the lower right corner.

Step three: Select an action from the available options.

After setting the hot corner activation, move the cursor to any corner of the screen and the defined action will be performed.

In some cases, hot corners can be activated unintentionally. To avoid this, users can use modifier keys – such as Command, Shift, or a combination of both – to perform actions in hot corners.

To do this, hold down the Shift or Command key, or a combination of both, while selecting an action.

Although they have the same name, Hot Corners works slightly differently on macOS and iPadOS, and the range of actions performed is quite different.

As mentioned earlier, actions on MacBooks are performed by moving the cursor to a corner or by defining modifier keys that the user must press to be included in Hot Corners – when the cursor is moved to a corner. On the iPad, the user must move the cursor to a corner and wait for the Dwell action to complete, triggering a series of actions.

The actions that can be configured to be performed in Hot Corners are listed below.
