7 Reasons You Should Start Playing Destiny 2 In 2024

Back in 2017, when it was first released, Destiny 2 wasn’t accepted with open arms. Many were disappointed in the sequel and for while it seemed that the game won’t match the success of its predecessor. However, that couldn’t have been farther away from the truth. After a few tweaks here and there, the developers have transformed Destiny two into one of the best and most popular games of the late 2010s.

Now that we are well into 2024 and that most of us have gotten our hands on the new consoles (since 3000 series graphics cards aren’t becoming available any time soon), we can revisit, now already iconic title, Destiny 2 – under some new light. Is the game still good? Should you keep playing it and should you start playing it? Is it still relevant? All of those questions will be answered shortly and by the time you’re done with this article you’ll be downloading Destiny 2 from Steam – we guarantee it. It’s not like you have anything better to do, I mean, outside’s pretty bad right now – right?

So, without further ado, let’s check out why Destiny 2 is still worth it in 2024.

1. It’s Welcoming For A New Player

If you haven’t played Destiny 2 earlier, don’t worry, the game is pretty awesome for any newbie. The game is so well-developed, that even a complete beginner can enjoy themselves from the get-go, as they progress through tutorial quests and storyline while getting familiar with all of that this game has to offer. And believe us – this game has to offer a lot, even though the offering has been pretty much cut in half. But the new content’s coming pretty soon.

2. It’s Free

There really aren’t a lot of free games nowadays. Well, that’s not entirely true. There are a lot of free games, however, most of them suck, big time. On the other hand, the mighty Destiny 2 is completely free to play, both on PC and the console. Granted, the only thing that’s free is the base game and if you want to enjoy a full experience, you’ll need to purchase add-ons, expansion packs and DLC’s, but for starters, the base game should be more than enough. That’s especially true if you’re new to the game – don’t rush to get all the expansions and DLCs right away. The free version packs more than enough content for getting familiar with and good at the game. If you happen to realize you need more and you can’t get enough of this game – you’ll be able to get pretty much every piece of content released in the past 4 years for just over $100.

3. The Grind Is Fun

As you probably know, Destiny 2 is what you call a looter-shooter. Something like Escape From Tarkov, for instance. What that means, basically, is that you have to progress your way through the game by upgrading your character, your armour and your weaponry. Now, most of you who have played WoW know how gruesomely tiring grinding can be. It usually includes hours upon hours of boring, repetitive missions and quests until you’ve levelled up enough to carry a certain weapon. With Destiny 2, the grind isn’t boring – at all. Compared to WoW or Destiny 1 – this one is a walk in the park. It doesn’t take long, it’s quite fun and you can even grind in groups so that you can progress faster. Naturally, you can skip grinding altogether, which is what many do, according to Lfcarry. It’s easy to find players online and have them do the grind for you. For some pocket change, of course…

4. The Game’s Still Alive

Unlike some popular titles from the same period, namely PUBG, the player base of this game is still very active. Naturally, it’s nowhere near as popular as it once was, but the matchmaking is quite fast and you can easily hop up and join a game any time you please. If you play online shooters, you know how important that is and if you play PUBG you know how difficult it is to get a match in these days – especially in North America. Luckily, that’s not the case with D2.

5. The Storyline Is Great

Unlike its predecessor, Destiny 2 has an amazing, interesting storyline that will be quite fun for new players and even some old ones. We won’t spoil the plot for you, but basically, there’s an impending doom lurking and you and your buddies have to save the day. Pretty much a winning recipe – right?

6. Big Things Are Coming

In 2024, we’ve gotten Beyond Light addition to the game and it was amazing. In 2024 and 2024, we should be getting 2 additional expansions – The Witch Queen and Lightfall. If the two are to be as much as fun as Beyond Light was – we’re in for a big treat.

7. The Season 14 Coming

With the new season coming on May 11, 2024 – we can expect some major changes and a lot of new content (and some old ones as well). The player base is very excited to get to experience the Vault of Glass, the iconic raid from Destiny 1 – only this time much better looking. We still don’t have the name for the new season, but considering we’re getting the Vault – some believe we could be expecting the “Season of Glass”.

Considering we don’t even know the name, we can’t tell you a lot about what kind of content you can expect in the new season, but we’re sure it’s going to be fun. It’s probable that this season will last slightly longer than the previous ones, as many expect that the next seasons will come with The Witch Queen expansion, which has been delayed recently. Could we see the return of some legendary weapons like we saw in Season 13 – we don’t know, but it’s one of the possibilities, that’s for sure.

Finally, we can only say that playing Destiny 2 is fun – much more fun than doing nothing. So, if you’re in the mood for something new – you should probably give D2 a chance. But be warned – you might get hooked!
