The news was shared on the official blog, and the Russian app also explained a step-by-step guide on how to make the switch from Zuckerberg’s messenger to yours. On Apple and Google phones, WhatsApp should go straight to the end. Refer to the procedure below for each of these devices:
On Android: Open WhatsApp, select the conversation you want to have, and tap the colon in the upper right corner to open the chat menu. Then click Next and Export Conversation. Messenger will then ask whether you want to include multimedia files (photos, video and audio) in the migration or not. Once selected, click on the Telegram icon and determine the chat room where you want to clone the conversations.
On iOS: In the WhatsApp application, open the Contact Profile or Group Info page, tap Export Conversation, and then tap Telegram in the Sharing menu. You can also record media files during the migration. The difference is that on iOS, the user can also copy conversations directly from the chat list. To do this, drag the string to the left and select …, then click Export String.
In both cases, you can have individual and group conversations with the messengers. Just select the original cat in WhatsApp and the target cat in Telegram to create a copy that won’t take long to make.
After the migration, the Telegram application identifies the messages transferred to it from the WhatsApp application and displays the entry after each transmission. In addition to Mark Zuckerberg’s application, Telegram also allows users to migrate messages from other applications, such as Line and KakaoTalk.
Telegram launches a feature that lets you import WhatsAppcats
This week, however, Telegram went way beyond that. According to WABetaInfo, the latest update to the Russian messenger includes the ability to import conversation history from other applications, including WhatsApp itself.
This means that in addition to more features and more privacy, Telegram now wants to make life easier for those leaving WhatsApp. As you can see in the screenshots below, it’s very simple:
For now, the new feature is only available to iOS users, but WABetaInfo guarantees that the functionality will soon be available on Android as well. Here’s how:
- Select the chat you want to export to WhatsApp. Tap other options and select Export Message String.
- Select Telegram from the iOS options, as the application will ask you where you want to import the messages.
- You can select saved messages, a new group or another call. Once the selection is complete, the messages and even media (if selected by the user) will be available in your chosen chat room.
- All input messages shall be stamped with an entry stamp.
The telegram indicates that it is also possible to import messages from an entire group. The passage is essentially the same as for individual interviews.
